Many premium Chinese phone brands are creating and updating their own skinned Android OS. Vivo is one such premium Chinese phone company and they have recently released a new OS for their phones. It is called “Funtouch OS” and it adds new features to the phone. The default launcher and stock apps have also been updated in terms of functionality and aesthetic. The Star N9599 is one of those “imitation” phones that is designed to look like certain other flagship phones. To be specific, upon looking at the N9599, you will immediately think of the Samsung Note 2. It even has a pen available but do note that it does not function as a “S-Pen” of any sorts. The phone isn’t exactly one of those clone devices because it is not marketed to be one. When looking to buy one such device, you will find that the phone is advertised as per a normal android device. Chinese phones are known for their budget price and great value. There are, however, premium Chinese phones out there that are within the price range of your common brands’ flagship devices say the Samsung’s Galaxy Note 3, HTC’s HTC One and so on. Chinese phone maker Vivo makes phones that fall into such a category. They do have their budget selections but today we will be reviewing their flagship device. The Xplay [Two models: X510W (WCDMA version) and X510T (TD-SCDMA version)] is a premium phone that comes with unique features and amazing hardware. There is a successor (Xplay 3S) in the works but for now let us review their current, in the market, flagship the Xplay.

There is one common major problem with Mediatek powered Chinese phones and that is their GPS function. The main cause of the problem is the budget GPS chip as well as the lack of proper routing and implementation of antennas within the phone to facilitate a better signal and fix. Therefore, there are two solutions to go about improving the poor GPS performance. One would be a hardware fix whereby the phone will have to be disassembled to install an extended antenna. The other, which is what this article is going to cover, is a software fix where a few different phone functionalities will have to be activated to improve the GPS performance.
